Do I need to be a veteran to work with you?

Accepted Answer

No. I’m a veteran myself and my work is deeply trauma-informed, which makes this a natural fit for ex-service members and first responders. But I work with anyone carrying weight — parents, tradespeople, professionals, teenagers (12+), people recovering from grief, burnout, relationship breakdown, or simply feeling disconnected from themselves. What happens in the free initial consultation?

It’s a no-pressure 20-minute chat — phone, video, or in person if we’re nearby. You tell me as much or as little as you want. I listen, answer your questions, and we figure out together whether I’m the right person to help you and what approach might suit. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll tell you that and point you to someone who is. No obligation to book further.

Question 3

I’ve never done anything like this before. What if it feels weird?

Most people feel a bit unsure their first time — that’s completely normal. I explain everything before we do it. Nothing happens without your consent. You set the pace. We start with grounding and safety, not deep diving, so your nervous system can settle before we go anywhere sensitive.

How do I know which modality I need?

Accepted Answer

You don’t have to know. That’s my job. I listen to what’s going on, and I suggest the right tool (or combination) for where you are. Sometimes it’s counselling first. Sometimes it’s body-based work (Somatic Healing, TRE, breathwork) because the body is holding what the mind can’t name. Sometimes Reiki for nervous-system calming. Usually it’s a blend that evolves as we go.

What if I don’t feel different after my first session?

Healing isn’t linear. Some sessions produce profound shifts the same day; others plant a seed that takes weeks to unfold. I’m not selling miracles — I’m offering real work with real results over time. After every session we check in about what’s moving and adjust the plan.

Question 6

What’s the difference between what you do and seeing a psychologist?

Psychologists and psychiatrists do vital work — clinical assessment, diagnosis, medication management (psychiatrists), and evidence-based talk therapies like CBT. My practice is complementary, not a substitute. I combine counselling with body-based and energetic tools that address what talk alone often can’t reach — stored nervous-system charge, subconscious emotional patterns, and spiritual disconnection. Many of my clients see both a psychologist and me. We can work alongside your existing treatment team.

Do I have to believe in Reiki for it to work?

Accepted Answer

No. Reiki doesn’t require belief. Most sceptics feel deeply relaxed after a session regardless of what they think about the mechanism. If the theory doesn’t resonate, focus on the experience: nervous-system regulation, better sleep, and a calmer mind are the typical outcomes.

What is TRE? Will I lose control of my body?

TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a simple set of movements that activates your body’s natural tremor response — the same mechanism a dog uses after a scare. You stay fully clothed, fully conscious, and fully in control. You can start and stop the tremors whenever you choose. It’s not a loss of control; it’s a release of stored tension your body has been waiting to discharge.

Is Time Line Therapy hypnosis?

Not in the stage-show sense. You’re fully aware the entire time. Time Line Therapy uses guided imagery and subconscious communication to release negative emotions (anger, sadness, fear, hurt, guilt) tied to specific events — without having to retell the story in detail. Most people are pleasantly surprised how calm and conscious it feels.

Do you offer online sessions, or is it only in person?

Both. In-person sessions are available around North Queensland (mobile — I come to you). Counselling, coaching, Time Line Therapy, and distance Reiki are all available online, Australia-wide, via Zoom or phone. Somatic Healing and TRE are best done in person for your first session, then you can practise at home or continue online once you know the technique.

How much does it cost?

The initial consultation is free. Individual sessions are priced to be fair for a sustainable private practice — we’ll discuss the specifics in your consultation, as pricing varies slightly by modality and session length. The Signature Program (8–10 weeks) is priced as a package with significant savings over booking weekly. I’m happy to be transparent about pricing from the first conversation.

Do you accept DVA, NDIS, or private health insurance?

Rebate eligibility depends on the specific modality and your situation. For veterans, DVA Non-Liability Health Care (NLHC) covers mental health treatment and may apply to counselling services. NDIS plan-managed clients may be able to use plan funds for certain services. Private health rebates are not generally available for Reiki or TRE. The honest answer is: let’s have a quick chat and work out what applies to you — there’s often more than one pathway.

Where are you based? Do you travel?

I’m based in North Queensland and I travel to clients throughout the region for in-person sessions. For clients outside the area, online is a genuinely effective option for most of my work. If you’re curious whether I cover your area, just ask.

How do I book?

Can my partner or family member join a session?

Accepted Answer

Yes, where it’s appropriate. Some couples work is powerful done together. For trauma work I usually start with you alone so your process is your own, and we can bring loved ones in later if that serves the work. Family members and partners are also welcome to book their own individual sessions.

Is what I share confidential?

Accepted Answer

Yes. What you share stays between us. The only exceptions are legal and ethical: imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected child abuse, or a court-ordered disclosure. I’ll explain these limits clearly at the start of our work together so nothing is a surprise.

Is your work trauma-informed?

Yes. Every tool I use, and the way I use it, is grounded in trauma-informed principles: safety first, your nervous system sets the pace, informed consent at every step, and never pushing anyone past what they can integrate. You’re always in charge of the work.

What if I’m in crisis right now?

If you are in immediate danger or having thoughts of suicide, please reach out to a crisis service right now — they’re free, 24/7, and trained for exactly this moment. Lifeline 13 11 14 or Open Arms (veterans & families) 1800 011 046. If you or someone else is in immediate physical danger, call 000. My practice is not a crisis service, but once you’re stabilised I can be part of your longer-term recovery team.

Can I see you if I’m on medication?

Yes. I work alongside medication, not against it. I’ll never tell you to change or stop medication — that’s between you and your prescriber. My work supports the foundation your medication provides, helping you build the skills and release the charge to potentially need less support over time (if that’s your goal).

Do you work with women as well as men?

Absolutely. My practice is open to anyone. About half my clients are women. I’m particularly aware of the unique burden carried by partners and family members of veterans and first responders — often overlooked, rarely offered targeted support.

How many sessions will I need?

Honest answer: it depends on what you’re working with and what you want. Some people feel significant shifts in 3–6 sessions. Deeper trauma work often benefits from the Signature Program’s 8–10 week structure. A small number of people find what they needed in a single session. We’ll talk about it openly — I’m not in the business of stretching things out unnecessarily.

The Signature Program is an 8–10 week integrated journey that combines multiple modalities in a planned sequence — designed for people ready to go deep and make lasting change. Think of it as the difference between a workout and a full training camp. Both are valid; the right choice depends on where you are.

How do I enrol in the Signature Program?

Every enrolment starts with the free 20-minute consultation — it’s not something you can just book online, and for good reason. Over 8–10 weeks the program is a real commitment of time, energy and investment, so we need to talk first about what you’re working with, scheduling, package pricing, and whether the program is genuinely the right fit. If it is, I’ll schedule your sessions into my calendar directly afterwards and confirm the full plan — no need to rebook week by week. If individual sessions would serve you better, I’ll say that too.
