Somatic Healing & TRE

Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind — it lives in the body. Somatic healing and Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) give your nervous system a safe way to discharge what it has been holding, without having to retell your story.

The Body Keeps the Score

When we experience high stress or trauma, our nervous system mobilises — fight, flight, or freeze. In the wild, mammals shake it off within minutes. Humans are taught to “hold it together,” and that unreleased charge stays in the body for years.

It shows up as tight shoulders, clenched jaws, sleepless nights, short fuses, low-level anxiety, chronic pain. Traditional talk therapy can name it — but the body needs a different language to let it go.

TRE (developed by Dr. David Berceli) is a simple sequence of exercises that activates your body’s natural neurogenic tremor response — the same mechanism a dog uses after a scare. It’s gentle, self-directed, and it works.

What Somatic Work Can Shift

You don’t need to relive a memory to release its grip. The body knows how to heal — it just needs permission.

Releases chronic muscular tension held since childhood or service
Calms an overactive nervous system without talk or analysis
Supports recovery from PTSD, anxiety, and complex trauma
Improves sleep, digestion, and overall regulation
Works alongside counselling, Reiki, and Time Line Therapy
Can be self-practised at home once learned
Non-invasive — you stay fully clothed and in control
Suitable for veterans, first responders, and everyday civilians

What to Expect in a Session

A typical somatic/TRE session runs 60–75 minutes and follows this structure:

1

Nervous System Check-In

We begin gently — I assess where you are today, what your body is carrying, and set clear, safe boundaries for the session.

2

Grounding & Preparation

Simple grounding exercises prepare your body. You stay fully clothed and in control the whole time.

3

The TRE Process

A short sequence of exercises fatigues the psoas and core, then invites your body’s natural neurogenic tremor — the same response mammals use to discharge stress.

4

Integration & Rest

We close with rest, breath, and a gentle check-in so the release settles. You leave with tools to self-regulate at home.

Trauma-Informed & Fully Clothed

You stay in charge of your own body the whole time. No touch, no pressure, no forced disclosure. I guide — you choose the pace. If something doesn’t feel right, we stop and regroup. That’s the deal.

Who Somatic Healing Is For

Somatic work meets you where words can’t. It’s particularly powerful for:

Veterans & First Responders

If your body is still on alert long after the job is done, TRE gives your system a way to finally stand down.

People Stuck in Overwhelm

Anxiety, burnout, chronic tension — if you’ve tried talking it out and it’s still in your body, this is for you.

Anyone Carrying Quiet Weight

You don’t need a diagnosis or a “big” story. If life feels heavier than it should, your body has wisdom to share.
